The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) CEO Nancy Macharia announced that the 30,000 new teachers are expected to be part of the payroll on January 30, 2023.

Macharia spoke on Friday, January 20 at Mtihani House where the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) 2022 results were released.

"It is our intention to have the new recruits join the payroll on January 30 on the same day as the Junior Secondary School(JSS) learners resume," she stated.

She added that interviews for the new teachers are set to be completed today, Friday, January 20.

Furthermore, she declared that the teachers will undergo a retooling program to equip them for the JSS learners noting, "TSC will provide guidelines on the teaching and administration of Junior Secondary Schools as the report shortly."

"All the new recruits will be put on a retooling regime to ensure they adequately attend to the JSS learners. We already have 2,376 master trainers ahead of the retooling programming," she added.

In addition, Macaharia stated that the commission targets to train at least 90,000 teachers between January and April 2023 to help update them on the new Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).

She assured the country that the process was diligently handled and done without bias while complying with the values and principles of the Constitution.

Macharia also disclosed that the commission had carried out a careful teachers transfer process across the country.

"We conducted the exercise affecting 14,733 teachers transfers which will become effective this term. These transfers will not affect the delivery of our teachers," she assured.

She concluded by informing teachers of the changes in the medical insurance scheme.

"I want to inform our teachers that we have enhanced their benefits under the medical insurance scheme to make it more attractive," she announced.

According to the CEO, all teachers ought to familiarise themselves with the changes to ensure that they fully use the scheme with their families.
