Legendary musician Ben Guthae announced that he has ditched Azimio la Umoja Coalition.

Speaking on Monday, January 23, during the burial of the sister to Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria in Gatundu, Kiambu County, he announced that he had officially joined Kenya Kwanza.

The Tano Tena hitmaker stated that he learnt of President William Ruto’s attendance through Kuria after visiting him at his home.

“I visited Moses Kuria on Friday and learnt about your visit. I wondered whether to attend the burial or not. But I had to swallow my pride and come face you.

When things go bad the only option is to move forward. I am here now, I have left them. I met Kiambu Woman Representative Anne Wamuratha and she asked me why I did not attend today's Kamukunji rally. I told her this is where I belong,” he announced.

Revisiting Ruto’s speech where he stated that his government belongs to the whole nation, Githae stated that he had also come as a lost sheep who did not vote for Ruto but was ready to be accepted back.

“You went to Nyanza and stated 99% did not vote for you and called them for a talk and in your house I believe you have many mansions. We are only 20% who did not vote for you. Will it really be difficult for you to have a talk with us?” he noted.

Pleading for a warm welcome from Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, the Kikuyu musician asked him to accept every musician who had ditched Jubillee just as he has been welcoming other Members of Parliament.

“Riggy G you called all Jubilee MPs, we are also here as musicians who belonged to the other side. Call us now we are ready,” he uttered.

Speaking during a past interview, the Tano Tena musician revealed that his friendship with former President Uhuru Kenyatta eventually morphed into an unlikely alliance that saw him and Raila Odinga sit at the same table as they drafted the way forward for the Kenyan music industry hence supporting the opposition.

"My friendship with Uhuru Kenyatta began way back in 2011 during this trip to the Hague. Back then, Kenyatta and his team would use my song 'Mabataro' (My needs) and that's when our relationship started.

Fast forward to 2017, Kenyatta tasked his team to sit down with me and craft the 2017 election anthem. In fact, I met the then-president at State House Nakuru, and later met with his men who now incorporated me into the 'Mbele Iko Sawa' faction, led by Moses Kuria," he stated.

He had however stated that he had one condition before he supported Raila and composed him a campaign hit song. Githae, then, explained that he would have supported Raila if only Uhuru endorsed him.
