The story of Clive Gisairo the Kitutu Member of Parliament is that of resilience and foresight.

Buoyed to become an entrepreneur, he graduated from the University of Nairobi with a degree in Commerce and set out to create an entrepreneurial venture to earn income.

Together with his friends, they settled on a community chicken project christened ‘One Hen Campaign Project’ where they would gift select households with a ‘seed’ hen, and thereafter demand another chicken from their multiplied flock after some period.

Ironically, the seed capital for the project was a hen gifted to him by his grandparents.

It was through this project that Gisairo was able to endear himself to constituents in Masaba who gave him the nod to represent them in the 13th Parliament.

Gisiora who runs the venture with his two friends revealed that they had to change the business model to a community project to what it is today, the 'One Hen Campaign Project', which basically involved donating a hen to poor households.

He would gift new mothers with chicken while offering scholarships to teenage mothers who had dropped out of school.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Gisairo's aide James Makini revealed that the project has tentacles all over the sub-county.

"We have had 50,000 beneficiaries in the project since 2010, a project we even expanded into animal feeding for cows. We presently have 7,000 chicken which new have diversified into layers," he revealed.

He further divulged that the community project has been beneficial not only economically to the community but also knowledge-wise.

"We have 22 employees enrolled in the program. The team also has field officers particularly women, youth and self-help groups who are trained on chicken management, agri-business and how to access markets for their chicken," he added.

His 'One Hen Campaign' would sweep the whole constituency leading to his name being coined into Clive Gisairo's “yule wa Kuku” (one of the hens),"

Gisairo would break a history of 33 years in the constituency by being the first MP to be elected on his first attempt.

He has also been advocating for students to enrol for technical courses which he stated that would empower them economically.

After being declared the winner, Gisairo revealed that he would prioritise upgrading all roads, changing the system of awarding educational bursaries and distribution of development projects.

“I definitely know the people of Kitutu Masaba trust my leadership qualities and I hope to live up to their expectations,” Gisairo opined.
