Joining the university after high school is one of the dreams of young Kenyans seeking to better their lives but not all are successful to transition to highly esteemed institutions.

Those who fail to meet the required grades for a course during their Kenya Certificate Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations are often left in limbo in limbo not knowing whether they will acquire a university education.

However, all hope is not lost. With bridging, candidates can attain the required grade to level up to the university of their choice.

Bridging courses are short, specific, and detailed learning programs that help candidates improve their grade in a particular subject.

A candidate can learn this course within six to 12 months and progress to their dream university.

Some of the subjects a candidate can bridge include Mathematics, Biology, Physics and Chemistry among others.

For instance, those intending to take up a career in Accounting but failed to attain the minimum required grade in Mathematics can bridge the subject for a chance to join a university.

Unlike other courses, however, there is no minimum requirement to bridge a subject. While pursuing the course, candidates are advised to ensure they attain the minimum overall grade for the desired university course.

There are many learning institutions in Kenya that offer bridging courses and are recognised by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).

However, the applicants should understand that a certificate attained through bridging may not be recognised by international universities.

Critics of the bridging course idea suggest that the candidate should repeat form four for a chance to get better grades.

The Ministry of Education guaranteed that all candidates will be assimilated into higher learning institutions including TVETs to help them gain technical skills that will be useful in their entrepreneurial journey.
