Mary Wanjiku and her children from Gatundu North in Kiambu were left in abject poverty after her family allegedly abandoned her.

Wanjiku, the first-born daughter, claimed that she built a home and a rental house in Dandora to generate income for her family.

Despite Wanjiku sacrificing to educate her siblings while working in Italy for at least 12 years, she was left stranded after they allegedly stole her travel documents, air tickets and identity card, restricting her from travelling to Italy.

The incident allegedly occurred in 2018 when she returned to grace her brother's burial.

As she attempted to travel back to Italy via the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), she was astonished to find her documents missing.

Kameme TV presenter Muthee Kiengei narrated her story on Friday, January 27, adding that she would feature on the station's Saturday, January 28 show.

"Tomorrow on Kameme tv from Gatundu North, Mary Wanjiku may return to Italy where her life is intact. She disclosed that her account in Italy still holds her money," Kiengei announced.

"Everyone turned against her, she could not access her finances and all she needed was money to replace her documents. No one came to her rescue even her wealthy family members," the presenter added.

Furthermore, her two sons were diagnosed with a heart condition that required medical attention, but her family members did not step in to help.

However, her plight was heard by Pastor Gichombe in Makwa Gatundu North, who gave the small family a place to stay for free.

The children had been subjected to going with only a meal a day as making ends meet was an issue for the mother.

Her story elicited reactions from Kenyans who condemned the family's behaviour for failing to appreciate the work Wanjiku had done for them while abroad.
