Korogocho Member of County Assembly, Absalom Odhiambo, was summoned by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) over his comments at Azimio's rally in Kamukuji on January 23.

In a statement dated, Friday, January 27, by NCIC's chairman Samuel Kobia, the MCA's comments were considered incitement.

NCIC explained that the ally of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga would be called in to record a statement on the same and explain his sentiments.

The national cohesion body also noted an increasing rise of political temperatures in the country, adding that the MCA's comments would have been detrimental to the peace witnessed in recent months.

However, the date and time, the MCA was required to appear before the Commission was not made public.

"Political development in the last few days is creating unnecessary tension that, if not well managed, can plunge the country into chaos.

"On Monday, January 23, the MCA inter alia invoked ethnic hatred while inciting Kenyans to violence. Therefore, we have summoned Hon. Absalom Odhiambo Onyango to record a statement.

Further, politicians were cautioned against such remarks despite the differences that may exist.

All leaders were urged to respect President William Ruto, a symbol of national unity as the head of state.

This was in response to pronouncements made by Raila, who announced that Azimio did not recognise the legitimacy of Ruto's presidency.

“We wish to remind Kenyans that the President who is also Head of State is the symbol of national unity. Consequently, any actions that undermine the presidency will not only damage national cohesion but will also injure peace and unity among Kenyans," NCIC stated in part.

Nonetheless, the body noted the maturity in which differences in the 2022 presidential elections were handled, given that Azimio opted to file a petition in court.

NCIC's statement came after Odhiambo's clips were shared on social media as some called on the police to move with speed and apprehend the county legislator.
