Residents from Maralal town Samburu County called upon President William Ruto to direct the preservation of the home where his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta was conceived.
The residents argued that the area needs to be revamped and turned into a cultural centre where Kenyans and other tourists can visit and learn about the country's heritage.
"The national and county government need to work together and create a cultural centre here for our children to learn about our history," another suggested.
While speaking to the media on Monday, January 30, the residents noted that the home was where the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta met with colonial leaders.
"It was here that Mzee Jomo Kenyatta held his first international press conference. From here, he assured Kenyans that all was well and he was capable of governing the nation," one resident noted.
He also hosted the late President Daniel Moi and Prime Minister Oginga Odinga among other leaders at the home.
"This is a nice place, where we can learn about how we gained our independence," another resident stated.
It was first published in 1977 as one of the houses that hold the national heritage. It is under the management of the National Museums of Kenya
The historic home holds pictures of different events and leaders as well as the original telephone and furniture of the Kenyatta family.
In 2007, Uhuru visited the home where his father was detained in the colonial era.
"Conceived in this house in the year of our Lord 1961. A pleasure to be back using own two feet," Uhuru wrote.
It was reported that the founding father wrote the book "Facing Mount Kenya" while staying at the home in Maralal.
