Nominated senator Gloria Orwoba revealed that she was subjected to intense cyberbullying after being kicked out of Parliament.

Speaking at an interview with Hot 96 on Thursday, February 16, Orwoba stated that she was contemplating exiting social media owing to the backlash she received.

Orwoba was kicked out for wearing red-stained white suit pants to protest women's plight during menstruation. Her colleague, senator Karen Nyamu was also ejected, with the two leaders accused of dressing inappropriately.

The lawmaker reportedly reached out to her colleague, Senator Karen Nyamu, for advice on dealing with the online backlash.

“We are human beings, and those comments get to me. I even reached out to Senator Nyamu to advise me on how to deal with it.

“She told me I would overcome it but I don't think I can just ignore it. It is very intense,” Orwoba stated.

Moreover, the Senator stated that she had no regrets, as the incident educated many people on feminine hygiene.

“My concern is the school-going children because that is where the problem starts.

“When I think about it now, I realise that it was not a bad thing because it was clear that people are not informed about feminine hygiene and periods,” the Senator added.

Additionally, Senator Orwoba applauded Nairobi governor, Johnson Sakaja, for supporting and taking up her story as a challenge to address the plight of young girls in Nairobi.

“Well done, Sakaja. We need men who are aware of our problems as women and girls.

“If law makers can't talk about the issue then why would they sit and legislate laws about the matter,” stated Orwoba.

Additionally, Orwoba tabled a notice of motion on free sanitary towels, seeking the government to facilitate the provision of feminine hygiene products in all public schools and include a weekly lesson on menstrual hygiene.
