Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a on Friday, February 17, blamed Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi for woes affecting Thika Level 5 Hospital.
Speaking to the press, the legislator decried that services at the hospital had deteriorated in a period of one month.
Ng'ang'a, as a result, gave Wamatangi a 5-day ultimatum to address the mess and threatened of protests in the streets should he fail to act.
“The people of Thika are suffering. Imagine coming to a hospital to get treated and then being told there are no drugs at the facility. The patient is told to go and buy medicine from pharmacies outside the hospital,” complained Alice.
The Thika MP also noted that there had been some unscrupulous deals made by health officials at the hospital to steal drugs meant for patients and supply them to some private clinics outside the hospital.
“There are some medics at this facility who take medicine from the hospitals' pharmacy and supply them to their own clinics where they make sure to refer you after telling you there are no drugs at this hospital,” complained Alice.
Ng'ang'a also decried delays at the facility forcing patients to wait over one week before seeing the doctor for consultation.
She further accused the Governor of falling short on health matters in the county when compared to the previous regime headed by James Nyoro.
Ng'ang'a highlighted that the hospital’s hygiene had fallen to the ruins considering the hospital was a level 5.
Two weeks earlier, Governor Wamaatangi had visited the hospital accusing some medical officers of stealing drugs at the facility.
Earlier on, the governor had dispensed lorries containing medical drugs worth ksh60 million to various medical facilities in need of the medicine including the Thika Level 5 hospital.
