Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i's lawyer, Danstan Omari, was summoned to appear before the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) over an alleged raid at his client's home on February 8.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Tuesday, February 21, the lawyer confirmed that he had indeed been summoned to the DCI headquarters on Wednesday, February 22.

In the summons, DCI detective Micheal Sang directed the lawyer to appear at the headquarters at 9:30 am.

The Senior Superintendent of police indicated that he was investigating the allegations of publication of false information over the alleged raid.

"I have reasons to believe that you, Danstan Omari, an Advocate of the High court of Kenya, is connected to the offence or has information which can assist me in my investigations.

"With the powers conferred upon me under section 52 (1) of the National Police Service Act No 11A of 2011, hereby compel you to appear before me at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation situated along Kiambu Road At Mazingira House on February 22, 2023, at 9.30 am without fail," read the letter in part.

The lawyer was also cautioned against disobeying the summons.

"Failure to comply with the requisition constitutes an offence liable to prosecution," read the letter in part.

Omari's summons came days after detectives raided the home of the former CS to collect CCTV footage following their investigations over the alleged February 8 raid.

Matiang'i's legal team claimed that the home of the former CS was raided by police. However, various agencies termed the reports as false even as the former CS was urged to prove the raid with video footage.

"Our preliminary findings have uncovered evidence of a well-coordinated and deliberate attempt to spread false information and incite public fear, unfortunately, spearheaded by a person of the standing of a former Interior Security Cabinet Secretary," DCI stated in its preliminary investigations.

"This allegation is utterly false. No police officer(s) or any security agent from any Government institution or department was dispatched to the home of  Matiang'i to arrest, harass or otherwise interfere with his Constitutional rights in any manner whatsoever," Interior CS Kithure Kindiki echoed.
