An Azimio supporter who made damning remarks against President William Ruto and dared police officers at the Jacaranda Grounds was charged at the Makadara Law Courts.
Police officers told the Makadara Law Court on Monday, March 6 that the man allegedly made false pronouncements about President Ruto during a rally at the Jacaranda Grounds.
He was accused of uttering demeaning remarks about the Head of State and his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua and was charged with creating a disturbance in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.
In addition, the prosecution charged him with taking part in an unlawful assembly and inciting members of the public against police officers.
When grilled by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) he expressed remorse for the words he used against the police and the country's leadership.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on a Ksh50,000 bond and an alternative cash bail of Ksh20,000.
The 32-year-old threatened to drive out the police who had arrived at Jacaranda Grounds through all means necessary.
"I would like to tell you that the police you have deployed to these grounds are few and we have outnumbered them. In the event of anything, we will overpower them.
"We are giving them exactly five minutes to leave the grounds or we will hurl stones at them. Ruto is the president yet he does not know his work," he stated.
Police officers left the grounds but later followed him to his house where they arrested him and booked him at Kayole Police Station.
Speaking after his release, the man claimed that the police assaulted him and proceeded to go for a medical examination. However, he vowed to continue fighting for Kenyans.
"14 people entered the cell and beat me up and this is why my face looks like this. I am only advocating for the cost of living to go down," he stated.
