Najma Ismail, on Thursday, February 8, announced her departure from KTN News and Standard after nine years of service.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Najma confirmed her exit from the Standard Media-owned media station to pursue other interests. She, however, did not reveal her next assignment.
"I will inform the viewers and my supporters on my next assignment when the time is due," she stated.
In a separate statement, Najma narrated that the station had mentored her and contributed to her career growth in the media industry.
At the station, Najma indicated that she rose to become Kenya's first Hijab-wearing English news anchor.
She also recalled being promoted to head the Gender Desk at the station, empowering women and contributing to positive coverage of women thriving in different sectors.
"It has been an incredible honour and pleasure working at Kenya’s leading multi-media house Standard Group PLC from a reporter 9 years ago to achieving several firsts," Najma wrote on LinkedIn.
"I have grown tremendously, and I am forever grateful. However, the time has come for me to say goodbye," she further wrote.
Najma started at Iqra FM where she worked as an anchor and reporter. She was later recruited to join Sound Asia FM.
Her big break came in 2006 when Radio Africa employed her as a news anchor and reporter for Classic 105 and Kiss 100. Seven years later, she got another big break when KTN hired her as a news anchor and reporter.
According to KTN News, one of Najma's best moments on air was doing features on KTN Job Center.
Najma did her O-levels at the Aga Khan High School and later joined Griffins College for computer studies. She pursued a degree in Journalism at the Kenya Methodist University (KEMU) and graduated in 2019.
Her nine-year stint at the station earned her accolades, including being ranked among Kenya's Top 30 Muslim Achievers.
