The Leader of the Majority in the Senate Aaron Cheruiyot on Friday, March 17 defended President William Ruto over the uproar concerning the dominance of Kenyans from the Rift Valley region in his recent government appointments.
Cheruiyot claimed that during the fallout between Ruto and President (Rtd.) Uhuru Kenyatta, the former Head of State ensured that members of the Ruto's community were removed from state offices.
"The last administration fired our people like sacks of maize. The fact that we are not people who lament does not mean we were satisfied," the Senator stated.
He called out the indifference towards the community stating that as Kenyan citizens, who have contributed largely to Ruto's ascent to power, they deserved government jobs.
Cheruiyot teased that the country owed a lot to the people from the Rift Valley region who put Kenya's name on the international scene.
"In any case, for Kenya to be known internationally, it is because of the great athletes from this region. What is wrong with us landing jobs in the government," he stated.
The firebrand senator also called out the opposition for failing to raise an alarm when individuals from their communities are appointed to state jobs.
His remarks came amid an uproar over the number of appointees from Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's communities as Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, and heads of government organisations.
On March 12, DP Gachagua defended his boss, on the appointments stating that the Head of State was free to appoint individuals whom he trusted to lead various dockets.
He added that those who supported Ruto's presidential bid would rank top among those considered for government jobs.
Meanwhile, the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) warned the Kenya Kwanza regime against excluding certain regions from the country's leadership.
Nonetheless, President Ruto maintained that his government would serve all Kenyans including those who did not vote for him.
