Azimio leader Raila Odinga on Thursday, March 23, accused Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of hatching a scheme aimed at disrupting planned protests by the opposition.

Addressing the press at his Capitol Hill offices, Raila claimed that the DP convened a night meeting at his Karen residence and was attended by National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah and Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro.

According to Raila, Gachagua invited several youths to the meeting and instructed them to counter-demonstrators during the upcoming Monday protests.

Raila further claimed that the youth would be given uniforms similar to those won by his supporters under the Movement for the Defence of Democracy (MDD) banner to infiltrate the group and cause chaos.

"We have very authentic information that on Tuesday evening, Mr Rigathi Gachagua convened a meeting at his residence in Karen and in attendance were Kimani Ichung'wah and Ndindi  Nyoro. They invited youth from different parts of the country to that meeting.

"That meeting turned out to be a strategy session to plan to counter the demonstrators on Monday. The plan, according to the information we have, is that these youth are going to be given uniforms similar to those of the MDD, our movement. Then they will mix with our youth and accompany them throughout the demonstrations," stated the former Prime Minister.

Raila further detailed that the youth had been instructed to harm people during the protests a move to give a reason for the trial of the arrested Azimio members of Parliament to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The Azimio leader maintained that the movement intended to participate in a peaceful protest adding that plans by the deputy president to cause chaos would fail.

"We want to condemn in the strongest terms protests this criminal plan by these people to try and cause bloodshed in our country.

"We have said that we are a peaceful movement and we don't want any bloodshed," stated Raila.

At the same time, Raila condemned the appointment of Chief Administrative Secretaries (CASs) without vetting stating that it was a move that went against democracy.

Addressing the passing of the Privatisation Bill that allows the government to sell non-performing parastatals without going through Parliament by the cabinet, Raila called on the Members of parliament to oppose the move adding that it would be a loophole for the president to give away Public property.

"We call on our members of parliament to stand firmly to this illegality of giving away public property. We in Azimio will not and cannot allow Ruto to take us to the dark days of yesterday," he stated.
