The Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) on Monday, March 27, announced that it will resume normal operations on Tuesday, March 28.

In a statement, the corporation explained that the commuter train services would continue as per their normal schedule.

The Commuter Rail Service trains had been suspended throughout the day on Monday, March 27.

"We wish to inform our esteemed customers that normal commuter train services will resume tomorrow March 28, in line with our schedule," stated the authority.

Without giving reasons for the suspension, the Corporation stated in a notice on Sunday, March 26, that the suspension was due to unavoidable circumstances.

“We wish to inform our customers that due to unavoidable circumstances, commuter train services scheduled for Monday, March 27, have been suspended,” the notice read in part.

The commuter train serves five estates across Nairobi and its environs, operating on a fixed schedule across the city.

The estates affected by the suspension include rail service trains to and from Ruiru, Embakasi Village, Syokimau, Kahawa West and the Kikuyu station linking the towns to Nairobi CBD.

At the same time, the corporation clarified that the Madaraka Express trains serving the Nairobi - Mombasa and Nairobi Suswa routes would be in operation as usual.

“All Madaraka Express link trains between Nairobi Central Station and the Nairobi Terminus will, however, run as scheduled,” added the notice.

Azimio leader Raila Odinga maintained that the planned demonstrations would continue despite the tough warning from Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome who affirmed that the demos were illegal.

Police barricades were placed along Processional Way leading to State House and Waiyaki Way among other roads in Nairobi ahead of the protests on Monday, March 27.
