The government on Sunday, April 2, announced four different charges for citizens applying for or replacing birth certificates.
Huduma Kenya further detailed the application process and who is eligible to apply.
Cost is determined by the nature of the application and whether any amendment is needed according to Huduma Kenya.
For birth certificates that have no amendment, Kenyans will be charged Ksh60 to apply.
If there is a need to amend either the child’s name or one of the parent’s names, Huduma will charge an extra Ksh40.
If the amendments apply to both the child’s and parent’s names, the government agency will charge parents Ksh140.
Huduma Kenya further revealed that all applications should be made manually across their countrywide branches.
Those living in Nairobi though have an option of making an online application through the E-Citizen portal at an extra charge of Ksh180.
The government announced that only two persons qualify to apply for the birth certificate through Huduma Centres.
“This includes parents and guardians of a newly born baby and rescue centres or children’s homes taking charge of the child,” Huduma Kenya in a notification to the public stated.
Requirements to apply for a birth certificate include; a birth notification from the hospital of delivery and an Identity Card for both parents.
In case the parents are deceased, the person making an application must provide the death certificates of the parents.
According to Huduma Kenya, it takes 10 days to receive your birth certificate after making an application.
