The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), on Tuesday, April 4, clarified that intake for government-sponsored students would be in September.

According to KUCCPS, the placement exercise would allow students who sat for the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) to join universities.

KUCCPS's response followed a series of concerns and reports on changing the date to May from September. However, the government body refuted reports that the date had been changed.

"Government-sponsored students will report in September and not May," KUCCPS stated.

Besides dismissing reports of students joining in May, KUCCPS further informed 2022 KCSE students that application for placement had not been opened.

According to KUCCPS, after the application, students would also be allowed to revise courses.

"The application process for the 2022 candidates is yet to start, the portal will first be opened for revision of courses before transfer application," KUCCPS stated.

"The application guidelines will be provided during the transfer window," the government body indicated.

To avert confusion, KUCCPS indicated that students would be informed through KUCCPS official communication channels and public service announcements in mainstream media.

Applicants would be required to submit their KCSE results slips and all the required details by KUCCPS.

According to 2022 KCSE results announced by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, 173,345 candidates got the minimum university entry grade of C+ and above.

"The placement service should also engage with higher education regulatory bodies like Commission for University Education (CUE) and the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) to ensure that all learning institutions are prepared to enrol new students," Machogu stated.

Machogu insisted that those who failed to meet the cut would get opportunities in other tertiary institutions.
