The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Thursday, April 6, revealed four leads as the investigation into Jeff Mwathi's murder narrows down.
In a statement, the agency noted that it was analysing the CCTV footage obtained from the apartment Mwathi was allegedly murdered before his body was thrown from the building's 12th floor.
DCI further detailed that the footage was undergoing cyber analysis to provide a comprehensive report of the events that occurred on the early morning of February 22, 2023.
Additionally, the detective divulged that a toxicology test was conducted on the deceased's body after it was exhumed to determine whether he was intoxicated before his death.
"The samples will help establish whether the deceased had taken alcohol prior to the incident and determine its percentage, or any other toxic substances ingested prior to his death," DCI stated.
Furthermore, DCI revealed that DNA samples were obtained from the deceased's body after exhumation to ascertain the sexual abuse allegations.
Finally, the detectives deconstructed the crime scene and recorded fresh statements from the witnesses to apprehend the culprit.
The investigating agency, as a result, urged members of the public to be calm as the investigations continued.
"The Directorate of Criminal Investigations continues to call for patience from the public and the family of the deceased as investigations into this case enter the homestretch," DCI appealed.
On Wednesday, March 29, DCI boss Amin Mohamed led the scientific scene reconstruction process at the apartment associated with popular vernacular musician Lawrence Njuguna alias Dj Fatxo.
"I encourage the investigating team to resolve the case expeditiously and see to it that the rule of law carries the day. I also assure the family and members of the public that ultimately, nothing but justice will be served," Amin stated.
"In the meantime, we are currently waiting for a report from the government pathologist, which shall inform part of our final course of action," DCI concluded.
