Police officers, on Saturday, April 8, engaged a gang of suspected burglars after a high-speed chase in Embu town.

At around 4 am, police officers were tipped off about a saloon Probox car driving around the town while conducting suspicious stoppages.

The occupants of the vehicles were allegedly breaking into shops, especially alcohol-selling premises, and stealing drinks.

In response, a squad of police officers was immediately dispatched to track, arrest, and seize the vehicle that had eight occupants.

"We were informed that those who were in the vehicle were carrying out some criminal activities around the town," the Embu police boss recounted.

The officers soon caught up with the suspicious vehicle a few minutes after their search began at dawn, and immediately ordered the occupants to surrender.

However, the suspects disobeyed the order and sped off, prompting a dramatic chase around Embu County.

For several minutes, the gang outmaneuvered the officers by making dangerous turns which made them lose the officers.

According to the Embu police boss, the suspect engaged at a maximum speed that endangered everyone else, including pedestrians.

"We gave a chase to the vehicle despite dangerous manoeuvers that were very risky to the occupants," Embu police noted.

Overwhelmed by the fast police vehicles, the eight suspects jumped off their Probox and disappeared within the vicinity.

The police officers then mounted an operation on foot to capture the suspects who were escaping from the long arm of the law.

Unfortunately, the police officers returned without any suspect as they escaped their dragnet.

The officers returned to the abandoned car and discovered an assortment of alcoholic drinks worth Ksh120,000, according to the Embu police boss.

"You can see some of the tools which they were using to break into the shops and steal alcohol from the premises," Embu police boss stated.
