President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary Group on Tuesday, April 11, called upon the opposition to adhere to the rule of law and pursue all issues of concern through established institutions under the rule of law.

In a press briefing at State House in Nairobi, Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot noted that the Kenya Kwanza team would resist the attempts by the Azimio la Umoja coalition to implement failed policies of the previous regime.

He affirmed that the administration would govern the country in accordance with the Constitution.

"We are not refusing to take advice, we will listen to every Kenyan but we find it rather difficult to take advice from the very people that placed us in the mess we're in today," Cheruiyot noted.

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah added that the parliamentary group supported the government's policy on subsidising production rather than consumption.

He noted that the Kenya Kwanza administration agreed with the President on a Parliamentary bipartisan approach to resolving matters that affected Kenyans.

The PG nominated seven members for the bi-partisan talks including Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, Tharaka MP George Murugara, nominated Senator Esther Okenyuri, Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse and Eldas Member of Parliament Adan Keynan.

The final two on the list were Bomet Senator Hillary Sigei and Taita Taveta Woman Representative Lydia Haika.

According to Ichung'wah, the team was directed to strictly adhere to the Constitution in addressing the matters raised by the opposition, particularly the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) panel.

The team will face its counterparts from Azimio constituting Senator Ledama Ole Kina (Narok) and his Kitui counterpart, Enock Wambui.

Other members of the team include Millie Odhiambo (Suba North), David Pkosing (Pokot South), Otiende Amollo (Rarieda) and Amina Mnyanzai (Malindi).

Raila, in an earlier statement, had indicated that the bipartisan process should resemble the 2008 National Accord process and not be confined to Parliament chambers.

"A purely parliamentary process will not serve the intended purpose on the issues we raised. Our suggestion is to have a conversation at the national level through a process akin to the 2008 National Accord," he stated on Tuesday, April 4.
