Renowned media personality Jimmi Gathu on Monday, April 17, detailed how Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi's wife Tessie Musalia helped him join her husband's team.

During the Dear Life podcast, Gathu revealed he was friends with Tessie for a long time, and when she learned he lost his job she reached out.

"She was being told I moved to South Africa, I have become a junkie. She was told all manner of things before she got to me," he stated.

"When we met she told me, Jimmy I do not have the kind of money you are used to getting but I have a job for you. I know my husband needs visibility and you are the right person for the job," Gathu added.

Gathu took the offer earning Ksh50,000 a month compared to the previous Ksh700,000 a month while working at different media houses.

He was tasked with keeping Mudavadi relevant without changing his style of politics. Gathu worked as the former Vice President's communications officer.

"My job was to ensure Musalia's firmness as a leader was felt without making him too 'loud'," he explained.

"It was quite an experience, Musalia Mudavadi taught me more than I knew about politics and always thinking five steps ahead," Gathu added.

In the podcast, Gathu listed Tessie and Appie Matere CEO of Zamaradi Productions as two individuals who helped him during a difficult time when all his friends had left him.

"If Tessie and Appie did not find me after I lost my job, I would have easily drowned in depression," the journalist remarked.

Gathu's career in the media spans about 30 years when he began hosting the beloved children's show Club Kiboko which aired on Citizen TV every Saturday morning.

He has worked in various radio and TV stations including KBC, Kiss 100, Hot 96, KTN, Citizen TV, K24, and Nation FM among others.

"With my years of experience, I’ve been able to develop contacts in both the government and the private sector, which has made me an asset to anyone looking to connect with decision-makers," he stated on his website.
