Embattled Jubilee Party Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni on Tuesday, April 25, fired back after East African Legislative Assembly MP Kanini Kega wrote a letter to Majority Chief in the Nairobi County Assembly Moses Nyangaresi Ogeto delegitimising his role in the former ruling party.
In a letter that was also copied to three top leaders in the Nairobi County Assembly and the Registrar of Political Parties, Kega argued that Kioni was no longer its Secretary General referring to a ruling from the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) dated Wednesday, April 19, 2023.
"Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) vacated conservatory orders that had stayed the resolutions of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of Jubilee Party dated February 10, 2023.
"The resolutions of the said NEC meeting, suspended Hon. Jeremiah Kioni pending the exhaustion of the Party's Internal Disputes Resolutions Mechanisms (IDK) that includes a disciplinary process," Kega claimed.
In a quick rejoinder, however, flagged off the letter as fake through Jubilee Party's official Twitter account.
"Official communication on Party matters is done through official channels and platforms and the Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni who is the Party spokesperson.
"Any information coming from anyone else and communicated from clandestine locations is null and void," Kioni warned.
The former Ndaragwa Member of Parliament noted that he will continue to speak on behalf of the Jubilee Party until he officially relinquishes the position.
While confirming receipt of the letter, Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Ken Ong'ondi told Kenyans.co.ke noted that the matter was political and would be resolved within Jubilee Party structures.
"The letter has nothing to do with my office since it's a political communication which does not necessarily place a legal question to my responsibility," the Speaker acknowledged.
On Wednesday, 19 April 2023, Kioni and Kega did set the country in a political spin that left members of the public with more questions than answers after the both claimed that Political Parties Disputes Tribunal had ruled in their favour.
Kega's wing of the Jubilee Party claimed that Kioni had suffered a major setback after his appeal flopped at the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal.
However, minutes later, Kioni went to the media and dared Kega to take over his Secretary-General, noting that the tribunal had confirmed his (Kioni's) position.
