Lawyer Danstan Omari on April 27, sued Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung’wah over a defamatory tweet.
In the court papers, the lawyer is seeking Ksh11 million arguing that the lawmaker, who doubles up as the leader of the majority in the National Assembly, damaged his reputation.
“The matter has been filed in court,” Omari confirmed to Kenyans.co.ke.
The fallout began 0n February 1, 2023, when Danstan Omari appeared on a local television station praising former President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga while castigating President William Ruto.
“Kenya Kwanza want to drag Uhuru into court... Uhuru and Raila are two serious international figures, they control 80% of networks globally.
“Ruto is a local president and the likes of Ichung’wah are only known up to Kikuyu constituency,” noted Omari.
Kimani Ichung’wah shot back the same day with a curt remark throwing the character of the lawyer into question.
"At least I am known in Kikuyu by my people unlike the fake media-based liar’ only known along Koinange street,” Ichung’wah replied.
Irked by the remark, Omari, through his lawyer Brian Mabeya, threatened to sue Ichung’wah on April 12 if he failed to pull down the tweet noting that it was defamatory.
“The import of your impugned tweet was to portray our client as a person of loose morals, a person who keeps the company of prostitutes and an immoral person. Never mind the fact that our client is an advocate of several years standing and has been a lecturer of law,” stated lawyer Mabeya.
