Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday, April 29, put administrative chiefs across the country on notice.

While speaking in Ngong, Kajiado County, during the homecoming and thanksgiving service of the Principal Secretary, State Department for Forestry Ephantus Kimotho, the DP announced that 50 per cent of the administrators were facing the sack.

This was due to their inability to contain drug abuse and the use of illicit brew in their administrative units.

"We are willing to sack 50 per cent of you if you don't deal with this menace. We will not reshuffle or transfer.

"If an Officer Commanding Station (OCS) or commissioner cannot deal with the issue of drugs, we will also relieve him of his duties," he warned National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs).

The DP revealed that the idea to fire NGAOs had the full support of President William Ruto.

"The President and I cannot sit back and watch as a whole generation is wiped out. Within 14 days, we will take action,” he revealed while declaring Ruto’s stance in the matter.

On the 14-day ultimatum, the DP stated, “Drugs and chiefs cannot exist in the same location. By Sunday, May 14, 2023, you must report to my office that you have cleared drugs and illegal alcohol.”

The DP, however, gave out a strategy on how the administrators can avoid being fired after the elapse of the two-week notice.

He explained that this could be achieved through the assistant chiefs, chiefs and OCS’s exchanging lists of drug and illicit brew peddlers.

The DP has been on a mission to eradicate illicit brew, especially in the Mt Kenya region claiming that it has stolen the dream of many young Kenyans.

On Saturday, April 15, the DP launched a campaign against drug and alcohol abuse in Mt Kenya.

“Those who produce illicit alcohol that destroys future generations are worse than murderers. The force of government will be felt in this region and the rest of the country in the coming days.

“It is either drug and alcohol abuse or you the security agents that will leave this region,” the DP remarked during the launch.
