Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor on Monday, May 1, revealed how the victims of the Shakahola massacre suffered before they died.
Speaking after conducting an autopsy on the first 10 bodies, Oduor intimated that a number of the victims suffered asphyxiation.
This is a condition in which the body is deprived of the required amount of oxygen, leading to suffocation.
"Two of them had cyanosis- a bluish discoloration of fingernails and by inference, we can confirm that it was caused by asphyxiation, " Oduor noted.
Findings from other bodies confirmed the fasting-to-death narrative established during preliminary investigations.
"Generally, most of them had features of starvation. We saw individuals who had no food in the stomach and the layer of fat was small in the stomach but their liver was fatty, indicating starvation," the Chief Pathologist added
Notably, he revealed that the process of identifying the bodies would take longer than expected.
"DNA is not a process that takes a short time as it may take up to one month to return positive or negative results," Oduor explained.
Meanwhile, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki revealed that the police would focus on whether any organs were missing from the deceased.
Kindiki reiterated that if the suspicion that the bodies recovered in the Shakahola massacre were victims of an organ trafficking ring, then he would bring the perpetrators to book.
On May 1, Azimio Chief Raila Odinga demanded President Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua to explain their connection and that of their spouses, to Pastor Paul Mackenzie and Pastor Ezekiel Oduor.
He sensationally accused Ruto of allegedly leading a cult and accused him of using the church to govern the country.
