The United States Department finally opened its portal allowing applicants of its DV -2024 green card programme, commonly known as the green card lottery, to check if they were successful or not.
In a statement, the US notified the successful applicants of the dates when the visa interviews are slated to kick off in United States embassies across the world.
The registration period for the Visa programme began on October 5, 2022, and ended on November 8, 2022.
“The Entrant Status Check for DV-2023 applicants will remain open until September 30, 2023,” stated the Department of State.
How to Check If You Qualified
To check the status of your Visa application, feed the following information into the website at dvprogram.state.gov/
The information includes the confirmation number, last name or family name, date of birth and the authentication code displayed on the picture.
"Please be sure to have the Entrant's Confirmation Number, Last/Family Name, and Year of Birth to check the Entrant's status online," the department stated.
If an applicant lost the confirmation number, one can click on 'Forgot confirmation number' and choose the programme year.
The applicant can then proceed to provide the name and email address as required and click the submit button.
Green card lottery registration is typically done two years in advance, between the months of October and November.
The DV-2025 program, for example, will open between October and November 2023, and applicants will learn the status of their application in May 2024.

All entries are submitted electronically on the Electronic Diversity Visa (E-DV) website during the specified registration period.
After submitting a complete entry, the applicant will see a confirmation screen containing their name and a unique confirmation number.
It is important to print the confirmation screen for record keeping as it is the only way to check the status of the entry.
The law allows only one entry by or for each person during each registration period. The Department of State uses sophisticated technology to detect multiple entries. If you submit more than one entry you will be disqualified.
“The U.S. Department of State Electronic Diversity Visa Entrant Status Check for DV-2024 applicants is available until September 30, 2024,” the Department of State noted.
