Some of the vehicles were completely damaged from the impact of the crash, while the lorry was overturned.

By the time this article was written, authorities had confirmed one person dead and several others injured.

The number of individuals who lost their lives as well as those who sustained injuries was yet to be determined by the time of publishing.

The accident came just a month after another lorry rammed into parked cars killing at least nine individuals after the vehicle lost its breaks.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the lorry's driver sent a signal to warn the residents after losing the brakes but some of them were not quick enough to get out of the way.

According to data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), 1,072 lives were lost in road accidents between January and March 2023.

Earlier on April 18, the Cabinet chaired by President William Ruto while raising concerns over the rising cases of road accidents across the country attributed the surge to human error.

As a way of curbing the accidents, Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Wednesday, April 19, directed all Public Service Vehicle (PSV) and commercial drivers to undergo mandatory driving retests before the renewal of licenses from June 1, 2023.

"In the implementation of the Intelligent Road Safety Management System (IRSMS), all heavy commercial operators must ensure vehicles with a tare weight of 3049 Kgs and above are fitted with speed limiters effective immediately," Murkomen stated.
