Kenya's 100 metres champion Ferdinand Omanyala won the Kip Keino Classic after clocking 9.83 seconds.

9.83 seconds was Omanyala's best time in the 100 metres race in the 2023 season. That was also the best time in the world in the 2023 season.

The sprinter was followed by Kenneth Bednareck of USA, who had a season-best 9.98 seconds.

Omanyala won the race with President William Ruto and Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga cheering on the stands at Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi.

Marvin Bracy of the US came third after clocking 10.03 seconds. Also a season-best for the athlete.

Notably, the race had to be restarted after Steve Odhiambo was disqualified after starting error.

After the race, Omanyala thanked Kenyans for the support he received at Kasarani, expressing that he was focused on the upcoming races.

β€œIt feels so amazing to win at home in front of such a huge crowd. I am now focused on my next assignment, which is the Rabat Diamond League. I know it will not be easy but I will give it my all as I always do,” he stated.

Omanyala also received his award from Ruto, the chief guest at the annual event.

This is the second time Omanyala is claiming victory at the Kip Keino Classic. In 2022, he beat Fred Kerley of USA after clocking 9.85 seconds.

The African champion participated in four international events, including the Athletics South Africa (ASA) Grand Prix, where he clocked 10.05 seconds.

At the 2023 Botswana Golden Grand Prix held on April 29, Omanyala recorded a time of 9.78 seconds. However, his victory was nullified following a starting error.

Earlier, on February 15, the champion clocked 6.54 seconds in the 60 metres race at the 2023 World Athletics Indoor Tour held at Arena Stade Couvert in France.
