Sports and Youth Affairs Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ababu Namwamba was impressed by a skit by the Huruma Town Kids which recreated a photo taken during the Kip Keino Classic at Kasarani on Saturday, May 13.

The CS shared the video on his social media pages stating that he was moved by raw talent and was looking for them.

In the video the four boys reenacted a photo of the CS, President William Ruto, Azimio leader Raila Odinga, and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi as they followed events, in which Kenyan athletes displayed stellar performance.

“Talanta Hela, somebody please get me these boys,” Ababu stated in his post.

The photo made rounds after the leaders met at Kasarani hours after they attended the burial of freedom fighter the late Mukami KImathi in Nyandarua County.

It was the first time Ruto and Odinga were sharing a podium after their fallout, following the hotly contested 2022 polls.

Huruma Town Kids

The Huruma Town Kids, commonly known as H- Town Kids had been sharing their content on social media since 2019 getting global recognition.

Comprising of over 20 children actors, singers, dancers, acrobats, and models aged between 5 and 15 years, H-Town Kids have made a name for themselves, getting featured in international media outlets including CNN and Deutsche Welle(DW).

Their content includes videos and photos where they recreate celebrity photo shoots, movies and music videos.

The team, managed by Rose Mwaura, was founded to keep the children in the slum busy during the holidays keeping them away from ill behaviour and activities.

“We started with one kid. Mostly, we bring on board kids aged between five and 15 years. They must have the passion to either act, dance or do acrobatics,” Mwaura stated in a past interview in 2019.

In 2020, Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) Chief Executive Officer Ezekiel Mutua was impressed by the team that he promised to buy them the equipment they needed.

“I would like to buy them the equipment they are looking for and support their talents. It’s so gratifying to see young kids having so much fun in art. This is the real meaning of Sinema Mashinani,” Mutua stated on his social media account.

In 2021, the group became a global sensation after CNN correspondent Larry Madowo shared a skit they had done mimicking his report on terrorism in Kenya.

Shortly after, they were featured on a CNN programme dubbed ‘One World’ hosted by anchor Zain Asher, a move that attracted an even bigger audience to the kids who were lauded for their impeccable re-enactment skills.
