Canada’s Immigration Department on Tuesday, May 16, issued a warning over false immigration programmes targeting Kenyans.

In a statement, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) stated that it had been alarmed by increasing disinformation that Canada was offering special programmes to Kenyans.

According to IRCC, however, the Canadian government had not offered any such programmes to Kenyan immigrants.

Further, it noted that any accurate information concerning special programmes would be shared through its website.

“Disinformation is circulating which suggests that special programs are welcoming Kenyan immigrants.

“This is false, and the immigration programs referenced do not exist. For accurate information on how to immigrate, visit Canada.ca/immigration,” stated IRCC.

The warning came after several institutions and individuals masqueraded themselves as agencies to help Kenyans get jobs in Canada.

The unscrupulous businessmen acted just a day after Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua held discussion with his Canadian counterparts centered around securing jobs for Kenyans abroad. He later promised to continue conversations about securing jobs for Kenyans.

In a statement on Monday, May 14, Mutua noted that there were several opportunities for Kenyans to live and work adding that Kenya was having discussion on the same with the IRCC.

“During my official visit to Canada, I also held a discussion with the Honourable  Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship of Canada and agreed on the various migration opportunity pathways for Kenyans to go and live or work in Canada.

“I was pleased to note that there are job opportunities within various economic sectors across Canada and Kenyans can travel to Canada as students, tourists and as workers,” noted Mutua.

At the same time, Mutua warned Kenyans of the false recruitment agencies clarifying that a list of approved consultants would be provided by the government.

“In the meantime, please be careful and of wary of agencies that say they are recruiting for Canadian firms.

“We are aware that some Kenyans have been conned by some agencies and you therefore need to be careful so that you are not swindled. I will be providing a list of Canadian Government approved consultants (under the College of Immigration and Citizenship approved consultants,” Mutua added.
