Attorney General Justin Muturi, on Friday, May 26, selected 11 individuals as members of the Governing Council of the National Crime Research Centre (NCRC).
The 11 included IG Japhet Koome, Kenneth Odhiambo, Justice Jessie W. Lesiit, Jacinta Nyamosi, Maurice Tsuma, Mary Mbau, Judith Adongo Oloo, Samuel Ndiritu Wakanyu, Laureen Muisyo-Njiru, and retired Brigadier John Warioba.
"It is notified for the general information of the public that pursuant to section 6 (2) of the National Crime Research Centre Act, 1997, the mentioned above are members of the Governing Council of the National Crime Research Centre," read part of the notice.
Muturi will serve as the chairman of the council.
All members will be part of researching the causes of crime, its prevention, and disseminating the research findings as well as recommendations to government agencies concerned with the administration of criminal justice.
NCRC was established in line with the international best practice, where research has provided critical information on what works to impact crime and disorder and has helped to generate programs that can assist agencies in the criminal justice system.
It was established by the National Research Act 1997, which outlines the centre's functions.
"The center shall disseminate its research findings through publications, workshops, seminars, the mass media, and other appropriate means of dissemination," reads part of the Act.
According to the Act, council members will serve three years and be legible for re-appointment.
It is tasked with organising and planning fund-raisers to generate funds for the centre and formulate the centre's research policy and programs.
"The Council shall meet at such times as the chairman may determine which shall be not less than once in every three months," reads part of the Act.
"It may appoint such committees as it may consider necessary for the performance of its functions under this Act and shall prescribe the terms and conditions under which such committees shall operate."
