The Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) on Thursday, June 8, revealed that 35 witnesses are expected to testify in the Jeff Mwathi death inquest.

High Court Magistrate Zainab Abdul directed the investigating officers to gather more information about the case while ordering an inquest into the matter.

The inquest will be held on August 10 to help unravel the mystery surrounding the death of Mwathi that occurred in February 2023 allegedly at the home of Lawrence Njuguna, popularly known as DJ Fatxo.

The investigating officers initially failed to identify killers and cleared suspects who were linked to the case.

Mwathi's family lawyer Dunstan Omari told the press that the court had recommended the inquest after the investigating authorities failed to identify the killers.

“The public inquest is open to anybody who has any information concerning the Jeff Mwathi murder to give the details that will help in identifying those responsible for the murder,” stated Omari.

Omari, as a result, appealed to individuals with knowledge of the circumstances that led to Mwathi's death to step forward.

“I am sure some Kenyan somewhere has an idea of what happened, I, therefore, appeal that whoever has the details should come out and produce the information that will help bring this case to a conclusion,” he stated.

The victim’s mother, Anne Mwathi, echoed Omari’s sentiments stating that her family had suffered a great deal since her son passed away.

“I want to appreciate the Kenyans who have been supporting me including Kenyans in diaspora for sending me messages and comforting me, I really appreciate it,” Mwathi revealed.

She added that the investigating officers were following up on the case and urged the government to ensure those found guilty face the law.

Fatxo, who was the main suspect in the case, was on May 17 acquitted of murder charges after ODPP established that there was no sufficient evidence to link the DJ.

Mwathi’s body was exhumed on March 31 for obtaining samples to help in investigating the murder case.

Mwathi, an interior designer, was found dead on February 22 after allegedly falling from the 12th floor of an apartment in a Kasarani estate in Nairobi.
