Passengers onboard the bus included students who were heading back to school after the midterm break.

Police officers and area residents rushed to the accident scene and helped other emergency officials to rescue passengers from the bus.

The cause of the accident was, however, not immediately established by the time of publishing.

"An accident involving a PSV has occurred at Mau Summit Junction along Nakuru-Eldoret Highway. 14 casualties have been evacuated to Londiani Hospital. The the operation is still on going," Kenya Red Cross stated.

The Ena bus coach accident occurred a few kilometres from the tragic Londiani accident scene where a trailer rammed into parked matatus claiming 52 lives. According to the driver, the trailer's braking system failed leading to the crash.

Following the accident, Transport Cabinet Secretary announced a raft of measures to avert further accidents.

Speaking during interdenominational prayers in Londiani town in Kericho County, Murkomen revealed that a bill requiring all matatus to be fitted with dashcams sending real-time data for the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) will be tabled in Parliament.

"Telematics will have a GPS system showing where a vehicle will be at any particular time, it will have a black box recorder that will be transmitting the speed of every vehicle at every time.

"It will show the location of every vehicle and show when and who maintained the vehicle. It will show where the vehicle was serviced and who serviced the vehicle," he stated.

The former Elgeyo Marakwet Senator also noted that the government will expedite the re-testing of public service drivers.

The CS further reiterated that all roadside traders will be relocated away from highways and new markets with drive-ins built.
