Members of the National Assembly on Wednesday, July 5, threatened to impeach Labour Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore on grounds that she defied Speaker Moses Wetang'ula's directives.
Led by National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah, the MPs noted that CS Bore had treated the house with contempt by not appearing despite two invites from the Speaker.
Ichung'wah claimed that CS Bore was acting arrogantly yet she was vetted and endorsed by the same Members of Parliament whom she had allegedly defied.
"I will not stand before my colleagues and defend a Cabinet Secretary of government who has blatantly defied the directives of the leadership of this house.
"We have on two occasions rescheduled the appearance of the Cabinet Secretary yet she failed again to come to the National Assembly," Ichung'wah lamented.
The Majority Leader noted that Bore's defiance was exemplified by her letter to the Speaker in which she noted that she was handling other matters outside Nairobi and could not attend the session.
"The letter which she sent is full of contempt to the House. This is not a favour to anyone," Ichung'wah explained demanding more answers from the Executive, including President William Ruto.
Ichung'wah's sentiments were supported by Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi who argued that CS Bore had a record of treating MPs with contempt despite their patience.
"I have received numerous reports that this particular Cabinet Secretary has a habit of disregarding Members of Parliament and for that reason, we will deal with her as per the Law.
"I will be the first person to second a motion of impeachment against CS Bore since what she has done is a gross misconduct not just to the National Assembly but also against the people of Kenya who employed her," Wandayi argued.
Similarly, Budalangi MP Raphael Wanjala claimed that the CS was fomenting another scandal, and promised her a bitter impeachment process.
"There are a number of allegations against this particular Cabinet Secretary including something that happened in Karen. We now know what really happened against one of our own.
"We will defend our responsibility including calling on MPs to force her out of office for defying the orders and invitation of the Speaker," Wanjala stated.
