Former Meru senatorial aspirant Zablon Mathenge on Sunday, July 9, claimed that he was clobbered by auctioneers at his home and broke his leg over a car loan.

The politician who was speaking to KBC explained that the auctioneers moved to repossess the car despite him paying the full amount that was advanced to him for the purchase of the car. It was not immediately clear as to when the politician took the loan.

Mathenge who is a former police told the national broadcaster that he sought the protection of law enforcers but his pleas fell on deaf ears.

“The police officers handcuffed me and then the auctioneers descended on me raining blows. My leg was broken in the process and I have already reported the matter to relevant authorities,” he narrated.

The politician from North Imenti stated that he was ambushed by two police inspectors, 10 officers accompanied by auctioneers who beat him before driving away in his car.

Mathenge claimed that the auctioneers produced a court order given on June 13, disregarding an order that he received three days later stopping them from repossessing the car.

“There was an active court case with the loan company and I had orders from the High Court stopping the auctioneers from repossessing the vehicle,” he claimed.

"Even if they had orders to repossess my car, my letter from High Court carried more weight as theirs had been issued by a Lower Court," he added.

Mathenge further claimed that the officers and auctioneers violated his rights as he was denied permission to talk to his lawyer.

The matter has since been reported to the police but the politician claims action is yet to be taken including recovering a camera he lost during the scuffle.

This was not the first time the politician was having his property auctioned over failure to clear debts.

In 2017, it was reported that auctioneers wanted to sell a 0.30-hectare plot that housed offices and studios of Mwariama Radio and TV stand in the Mulathankari area belonging to the politician.
