Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka on Friday, July 21 met diplomats at his Karen Home.

The details of the meeting were first reported by KTN, just minutes after Azimio leaders led by Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi claimed that the Wiper Party leader had been detained by police at his home.

Media reports noted that envoys representing foreign powers were seen getting into and out of Kalonzo's home, possibly in a bid to push the opposition to drop their mass protests that have paralysed the country this week.

A journalist who was reporting from the scene told Kenyans.co.ke that representatives of the United Nations, United States, European Union, and Denmark were seen driving into the former VP's home.

Initial reports said that Azimio Leader Raila Odinga was also part of the meeting, but Kenyans.co.ke could not independently verify.

However, Raila dismissed the reports noting that he was battling a flu that hindered him from attending the demonstrations and other public engagements.

"I have therefore held no meeting with any envoys as reported by some media outlets. Representatives of our coalition Opiyo Wandayi and Jeremiah Kioni have today visited Kalonzo Musyoka following his ongoing house arrest and detention," he stated.

Meanwhile, the details of the closed-door meeting were not immediately disclosed. In a press briefing, Wandayi refused to comment about the said meeting.

"I did not quite see them myself, this is a free world and people can move around," he remarked.

The meeting comes days after foreign powers urged the government and the opposition to dialogue to end the deadly protests.

Diplomats offered to mediate between Raila and President William Ruto to restore peace.

However, on Thursday, July 20, Foreign Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua urged foreign powers not to push for a truce between the two leaders and to respect Kenya's democracy.

"While President Ruto has the full political mandate of the people of Kenya he agreed to the opening of a window of inter-parliamentary discussions to address some of the challenges that our country faces," Mutua stated.

Mutua emphasised that for peace to prevail, Kenya was willing to work with all stakeholders including partners as long as democracy is respected.

President Ruto during a rally, accused the opposition of declining the talks and opting for the streets. He added that the move was aimed at sabotaging the economy.
