The Road Safety and Safe Driving Practices on Friday, July 21, explained a viral video depicting a boda boda rider directing vehicles off the road and to a dusty road.
According to the association, the boda boda rider is the founder of Road Safety Volunteers Kenya and a road safety enthusiast who felt compelled to restore normalcy on the road after a traffic snarl-up.
In the brief video, the rider confidently stood in the middle of the road, waving his hands in the air to direct the flow of vehicles on both sides. Adorned in a bright reflector jacket, his visibility was enhanced, ensuring that his signals were clear to all motorists.
After the video went viral, Kenyans were left astounded by the remarkable level of obedience displayed by the motorists as they adhered to the rider's directions on the dusty road.
"Kenya is a Special Country! A bodaboda guy with his special motorcycle parked beside the road testing and exercising his powers on the highway and his fellow motorists are very obedient," a person commented.
"This is Nyaga The founder of Road Safety Volunteers Kenya. He responds to crash scenes and secures the scene. By that act alone he has saved millions of lives," the association explained.
A section of Kenyans lauded him for holding fort in the absence of traffic police. Most Kenyans appreciated his courage and patriotism.
Notably, George Kelvin Nyagah popularly known as NyagahVolunteer 1, has taken it upon himself to educate the masses on road safety by sharing crucial tips online.
"We all have a responsibility when it comes to road safety whether driving, riding, crossing, or cycling. The regrets and pain we are experiencing daily are not anything to smile about especially when you are sure it was a case of ignorance and carelessness," he said in a statement.
In a series of posts, Nyagah said he is determined to create awareness of various traffic rules and champion change to be implemented on the roads to reduce road carnage.
According to the law, the National Police Service (NPS) is mandated to regulate, control traffic and keep order and prevent obstructions in public spaces.
Data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) revealed that at least 2,318 fatalities were recorded between January and July 5, 2023.
