The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) party linked to former Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang'i, sacked several high-ranking officials in a bid to shake up the party leadership.
Led by the party leader and Nyamira Governor, Amos Nyaribo, UPA, on Friday, July 21, replaced the national chairperson Eliki Tom Musamali with Nyambega Gisesa.
Martin Ambrose Mutua was relieved from his position as national deputy chairperson, with Damaris Nyanchoka assuming the role.
Jacob Bagaka took over from Michael Monari as the secretary-general, and Joel Ombongi was appointed the new deputy secretary-general in place of Josiah Odanga.
UPA settled on Derrick Mosiany as the national treasurer, succeeding James Gichana. Ibrahim Ismael will deputise Mosiany.
Enock Ombuna was replaced by Alice Kiongo as the national organising secretary and UDA further appointed Mildred Okero to take over from Grace Mwashigadi as the youth affairs secretary.
Furthermore, the party plans to change its headquarters from Mandera Road, Kileleshwa to Lenana Road KIMS Court No.8.
The political outfit is also looking to amend its party constitution.
In a gazette notice dated July 20, the Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu issued a seven-day notice to those seeking to refute the changes.
"Any person with written submissions concerning the intended change by the political party shall within seven days from the date of this publication, deposit them with the Registrar of Political Parties," read part of the notice.
The party formed towards the 2022 General Election signed a pact with Azimio La Umoja Coalition led by Raila Odinga.
However, in March 2023, its members refused to support the nationwide protests organised by the opposition. Party leader, Amos Nyaribo, argued that the party planned to switch its allegiance and support President William Ruto.
"We have not joined Kenya Kwanza and we will not fold to join the United Democratic Alliance. But we have decided to work with the government of the day," Nyaribo explained.
