National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah on Saturday, July 22, piled pressure on President William Ruto asking him to take a stronger stance against Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and his family, accusing them of destabilising the country.

Speaking during a rally in Vihiga County, Ichung'wah mocked Uhuru for defending his son after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) conducted a raid at the younger Kenyatta's residence in Karen on July 21.

The Kikuyu MP also sustained the narrative that Uhuru is funding the Azimio la Umoja protests. He also claimed that police raided Jomo Kenyatta's home due to suspicions that he possessed 20 firearms.

The majority leader urged Ruto to continue exercising his mandate as president and protect the Kenyan people from rogue licensed firearm holders.

"You saw some complaining yesterday that their children were being harassed by police. Why do you have firearms in your house, what battles are you fighting in your house," he questioned.

Ichung'wah further accused Uhuru of sabotaging Ruto even as the current Head of State pursues his goals of creating jobs for the youth who he claimed are being misused to destroy property during the ongoing anti-government demonstrations.

"While the president is creating jobs you are complaining that he (Ruto) is disturbing your mother," he remarked.

In response to Uhuru's comment about peacefully handing over power, Ichung'wah emphasised that the position is a non-starter since Uhuru was legally required to do so by the constitution.

"You did not do us any favour, you were following the constitution," Ichung'wah stated.

Uhuru on Friday, July 21, denied funding Azimio to stage anti-govt protests across the country. He faulted Ruto and his allies for dragging him in their theatrics and using him as a scapegoat for their political failures.

"The issues that Kenyans are talking about have nothing to do with me. Have you seen me at any of those events? Have you seen me talk about those events," Uhuru posed.

He advised Ruto to listen to the people and resolve the crisis rather than going after his family to divert attention.
