3 Killed After Four Lorries Collide in Narok

Three people were killed, and several others were injured on Tuesday, July 25, after four lorries collided near Ntulele area along Narok-Mai Mahiu road.

According to a police report seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the accident occurred when a trailer attempted to overtake a truck en route to Narok from Mai Mahiu. Tragically, the trailer collided with another truck that was heading in the opposite direction.

The impact of the collision was so severe that the driver of the third truck lost consciousness and inadvertently collided with an oncoming truck. This collision caused significant damage to the wheels, fuel tank, and canvas of the oncoming truck. 

Meanwhile, in an attempt to avoid the chain reaction of the accident, the driver of the fourth truck swerved but, unfortunately, ended up overturning on the side of the road. Tragically, three people lost their lives, while four other occupants suffered numerous injuries

The scene was swiftly cordoned off by traffic officers, and an ambulance crew from Emergency-plus Medical Services (EMS) promptly arrived at the location to provide urgent assistance. 

The injured individuals received immediate medical attention and were swiftly transported to Narok County Referral Hospital for further treatment and care. The wreckage was towed to Ntulele Police Station yard.

NTSA Statistics

The latest statistics from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) show that 2,124 fatalities were recorded from road accidents between January and June 2023.

Pedestrians accounted for the largest chunk of these fatalities at 330, followed by boda boda riders at 265 and passengers at 171. 

The most common causes of accidents were over speeding, drunk driving, and reckless driving.

Other causes included disregarding traffic rules, using mobile phones while driving, and overloading vehicles.

The authority warned users to exercise caution and adhere to traffic laws when driving along highways and busy roads to avoid road carnage.
