The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and Kenya Railways on Thursday, July 27 announced service interruptions following the hacking of the eCitizen platform by a group operating under the pseudonym Anonymous Sudan

In separate statements, the two government institutions advised users to expect disruptions to services, even as hackers continued to launch attacks against critical communications infrastructure.

In its dispatch, NTSA revealed that motorists could not access the Driver Testing and Licensing and Public Service Vehicle licensing services that were onboarded on the government online platform.

NTSA advised Kenyans seeking online services to visit the website www.ntsa.go.ke which is still working.

"The authority assures the public that all other services relating to motor vehicle registration, transfer of ownership and motor vehicle inspection are operational and accessible through the online services menu," read the statement in part.

NTSA indicated that their teams are working around the clock to ensure that the technical hitch is resolved.

On the other hand, Kenya Railways revealed that its customers were experiencing challenges in purchasing tickets.

The train service provider indicated that the downtime was occasioned by technical issues faced by the network service provider. Kenya Railways also assured Kenyans that its teams were working on resolving the issue.

Apart from NTSA and Kenya Railways, other major service providers have also been victims of cyber security breaches in the last few days. Kenya Power on Thursday, July 27, stated that Kenyans had reported experiencing challenges in purchasing tokens.

Earlier in the day, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs under CS Alfred Mutua also issued an advisory cautioning travellers that they were likely to experience challenges in accessing online VISA services.

The ministry advised that travellers would be issued visas upon arriving in the country.

Following the numerous cyber security incidents, a group known as Anonymous Sudan claimed responsibility.

ICT CS Elliud Owalo confirmed the hacking adding that the government was addressing the matter. He however backtracked on the position stating that the breaches were unsuccessful.
