Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi on Thursday, July 27 hinted at a shakeup of the government that would help the Kenya Kwanza administration deliver on its key campaign promises.

Mudavadi, who is tasked with performance management in the government, has indicated that the move to evaluate the officials would not be ill-intended but objective.

Speaking during an event organised by the Ministry of Environment in Nairobi, Mudavadi explained that they would consider a number of things including strategic plans and service delivery standards.

He added that it was no longer business as usual as meeting targets was key to Ruto's agenda.

Annual work plans, performance contracts and staff performance appraisals will also be some of the factors considered during the review.

"We will use your own commitments to judge your relevance because the Government has made promises to Kenyans under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BeTA), that must be fulfilled," he noted.

"If you are not ready to better the lives of Kenyans, we will not retain you against your will.”

Mudavadi stated that all public officials will now be required to self-appraise in line with the government agenda and strategic plans for their ministries and state agencies.

"In the coming few days, we will be signing our performance contracts with the President. We must ensure that when the Head of State goes back to the electorate in 2027 then he is not let down," he stated.

Mudavadi's warning comes at a time when a majority of Kenyans feel that the country is going in the wrong direction and the administration has failed to fulfil some of the key promises.

According to a Tifa survey, 56 per cent of Kenyans feel the country is on the wrong track

Kenyans surveyed pointed out Corruption, Ruto's leadership and the high cost of living as some of the reasons why they feel the country is heading in the wrong direction.
