Wajir North MP Ibrahim Saney has challenged the Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome to tour his constituency and help complete a stalled police Station.

Speaking to the press on Sunday, July 30, Saney, who is allied to the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), noted that officers from Buna Police Station have been forced to operate under tough conditions.

He noted that the station had stalled for almost 11 years and there was no hope for its construction to resume.

The lawmaker, therefore, observed that the officers operating at the station risked attacks from wild animals or al Shabaab militia.

"Budgeting. The indiscipline in not implementing the budget as is passed by the Parliament is what has caused this problem. A white elephant home to animals.

"This compound lacks a fence. The police officers themselves, who are the source of security for the public, are insecure. At night, they can be overrun by Al Shabaab and wildlife," he stated.

"I want to make a passionate appeal to IG Koome to come to Guna, see it for himself and help us complete this project," he added.

The station, located in the dusty Northern Kenya region, has an exposed block exterior with a maroon roof and no windows.

The compound also has an incomplete wire mesh fence.

The development came six months after President William Ruto directed IG Koome to ensure that all funds allocated to the police force are used to better their lifestyles.

He noted that he moved the fund's management from the Office of the President to that of the IG to improve the service's independence.

“I did not move the police budget from the Office of the President to the Office of the Inspector General for the money to be stolen by corrupt individuals," the Head of State revealed at the time.
