A grieving family wants officials at Kerugoya County Referral Hospital held accountable for what they perceive as negligence following a tragic incident.
The family's relative, who had been receiving treatment at the hospital for five days, sadly jumped from the hospital's fifth floor to the third floor in the early hours of Saturday, August 12.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, August 22, the family members expressed their deep dissatisfaction with the hospital's management.
They noted that despite John's passing occurring on the night of Saturday August 12, they were only informed of his tragic death on Sunday, August 13, after he had already been transferred to the mortuary.
Leading the charge for justice, the deceased's brother, spoke on behalf of the family. They are determined to uncover the truth surrounding the circumstances of John's untimely demise.
The family is seeking clarity on whether John acted alone or if external factors played a role in his fatal fall.
“We were shocked after the hospital management told us John’s body was in the mortuary after falling from the fifth floor to the third floor and police visited the scene,” the brother said.
The brother additionally expressed concern that despite the prompt arrival of the police at the scene, the family was not notified about the incident until later.
“We just want to know the truth so that we can have closure” the brother said.
According to their version of events, the county referral hospital should have promptly informed them as soon as the incident happened or when they informed the police
Regrettably, the sole piece of information they received was that their relative had been transported to the mortuary.
Consequently, they now want the hospital to reveal the details of the incident and shun away from withholding any information from them.
Attempts by Kenyans.co.ke to get a response from the hospital bore no fruits, as calls and text messages went unanswered.
However, Kirinyaga Central Sub-County Police Commander John Torori told journalists that the authorities have launched investigations into the matter.
“The matter is being investigated by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations,” Torori said.
