Two people were injured on Friday afternoon after an aircraft crashed at Guara Primary School in Nanyuki, Laikipia County.

The pilot, a student at Mount Kenya Flight School, was completing a routine patrol under the guidance of his instructor before crashing the plane into one of the school's buildings.

Students were forced to scamper for safety after learning activities were disrupted at the school.

One of the first responders, who spoke to the press, revealed that they rushed to the school to confirm the safety of the students and the passengers onboard after they heard the commotion.

Shortly after, police officers and a rescue team were dispatched to the area.

"We saw someone rushing to the gate, asking for assistance to help us save the passengers. Fortunately, we were able to calm the students who were screaming and running for their lives," he said.

The pilot and the instructor, who were gravely injured, were rushed to Nanyuki Cottage Hospital. No student was, however, injured during the incident.

Normally, an air crash investigation seeks to determine the cause of the accident and make recommendations to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

According to the guidelines by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), a reporter and an inspector are sent to the location of the incident.

The reporter is tasked with compiling all information relating to the incident, update the Authority on any new information regarding the incident and respond to any queries in the course of the investigation.

On the other hand, the inspector is responsible for conducting investigations on reported incidents. He also seeks information and evidence from the service provider to facilitate closure of the incident and thus conclusion of the investigation.

In concluding the investigations, the inspector makes appropriate comments and observations that summarise the root courses and possible mitigation actions which will be required in the future.
