Police Recover Ksh9M Bhang From Prado at Accident Scene

Police in Kilifi on Monday launched a manhunt for the occupants of a black Land Cruiser Prado TX  involved in an accident from which police officers seized 316kg of bhang, estimated to have a street value of Ksh9.5 million. 

In a statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said that the Prado was reportedly travelling at a high speed before it veered off the road and ended up in a ditch along the Kaloleni-Mavueni Road. 

The accident, according to the agency, was caused by a punctured tyre.

At the scene of the accident, police officers recovered seven gunny bags filled with bhang.

During a search of the vehicle, law enforcement officers found and seized multiple registration plates, with one of them resembling those used on parastatal vehicles. 

Before the police arrived at the scene, the occupants fled the scene promptly. 

As such, the detectives have initiated a manhunt.

The Land Cruiser Prado has been impounded by the police and will be held as an exhibit.

Monday's seizure, occurs against the backdrop of an intensified crackdown on drug abuse, narcotics trafficking, as well as the sale and consumption of illicit brews in the country.

On Thursday, August 31, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested four Tanzanians and a Kenyan at a hideout in Kitengela, Kajiado County over links to the drug trade. 

The DCI in a statement, said that the foreigners were in possession of drugs suspected to be cocaine, concealed to evade detection.

Detectives also said that the suspects had packaged the drug into pellets hidden in empty fruit juice packets.
