As Kenya continues to bask in the glory of successfully organising Africa's first Climate Summit, the country has scored another win with President William Ruto revealing that the Global Centre for Adaptation's Africa regional office will be moved to Nairobi.
During the event being held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), the Head of State revealed that the organisation has decided to move the headquarters to Kenya over the country's commitment to climate change.
"I am delighted to announce that as an outcome of this Summit, Kenya will host the GCA Africa Headquarters here in Nairobi," he stated.
In his speech to the world, Ruto revealed that it is time for Kenya and Africa to look for internal solutions to address the climate change problems affecting the continent.
GCA which will now be headquartered in Nairobi is an international organization working as a solutions broker to accelerate action and support for adaptation solutions.
Currently, GCA;s regional office for Africa is hosted at the African Development Bank (AfDB) headquarters in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
The global headquarters are in Rotterdam, Nerthelands and the President announced that Kenya was working closely with the global centre.
The body is supported by AfDB, African Heads of State and Governments, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the United Nations and various Development Partners.
GCA works with its partners to align initiatives with global programs, coordinate projects across the continent, and deliver accelerated action for communities across Africa.
This comes after President William Ruto recently launched the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) program.
FLLoCA is a program involved in climate change adaptation and mitigation activities at county and sub-county levels in all counties across Kenya.
It achieves that through delivering locally-led climate resilience action and strengthening county and national government's capacity to manage climate risks.
