KTN News Anchor and President of The Kenya Editors Guild Zubeida Kananu, has landed an appointment with the Ministry of Information, Communication and the Digital Economy as a member of The Sector Working Group alongside Digital Strategist Dennis Itumbi.

The appointments to the working group were announced at the Serena Hotel on September 8, where CS Eliud Owalo unveiled the members who will be tasked to look into policies and come up with recommendations on the ministry's track record and policies.

She was recently elected as President of the Kenya Editors Guild and has now been selected to sit in the ICT working group that will guide on coordination and approach to administration in the Ministry of ICT.

Zubeida is also the current programmes editor and news anchor at Standard Media where she started as an intern in 2007 and has since developed into an experienced broadcast personality.

Other notable members of the Sector Working Group are digital strategist Dennis Itumbi, Prof Timothy Wahema who will be the working group chair, Miss Phylis Wigi and Dr. Hannington Gaya who will serve as the vice chairs.

Also selected to sit on the committee are Prof. Thomas Senaji, former Nation Media Group Editor-In-Chief Thomas Mushindi, former CEO of Public Relations Society Of Kenya Sylvia Mudasia and Daniel Obam among other members.

"Mrs Kananu holds a Master Of Science Degree in Governance, Peace and Security from African Nazarene University and a Bachelors Degree in Peace and Conflict management," noted Owalo.

She also holds a diploma in journalism from Shang' Tao Media Arts College and Crosswood Institute and also studied at The Kenya School of Professional Studies.

Recently she led the Kenya Editors Guild and journalist unions in condemning police attacks on journalists during previous anti-government protests by the opposition.

The working committee is expected to work on key terms of reference including examining existing policies, structures, systems, and strategies and recommending reforms required.

"In the execution of its mandate, the Sector Working Group shall regulate its own procedure, shall form technical working groups, based on thematic areas within this space," said CS Owalo.

It also identifies new technologies and other areas within the ICT sector that need interventions, and comes up with proposals to help the interventions.

The Working Group will remain in office for six months from the date of notice according to CS Owalo.

"Immediately after this, our legal team is going to proceed with the gazettement of this team, so that it is in office effective from today," added Owalo.
