A family in Kericho is mourning the death of a 10-year-old girl who was crashed to death by a truck that rammed into her house.
A report by the National Police Service (NPS) on Sunday indicated that the driver of the vehicle lost control at Soliat Corner along the Kisumu-Kericho corner hitting the residential building.
The minor and the truck driver died on the spot while a woman aged 30 years and a one-year-old child sustained injuries.
They were taken to Kericho Level 5 Hospital for specialised treatment.
"At about 1020 hours, the unknown driver was driving the said motor vehicle from Kericho general direction towards Kisumu and on reaching the scene of the accident, the driver lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road to the left and hit a residential plot damaging it completely," read the statement in part.
Photos shared by the police showed the wreckage of a mangled tractor unit.
The police, as a result, launched investigations into fatal accident. The vehicle is still at the scene awaiting offloading and towing to a Police Station.
The accident occurred two days after two traffic police officers were crashed to death in a road accident involving three vehicles at Rangwe Junction, along Lunga Lunga road, Nairobi.
The accident was caused by speeding Mazda that rammed the officers who were controlling traffic at the Rangwe junction, into a nearby forklift.
The sequence of events began when a probox, travelling from Donholm towards the House of Manji, collided with a forklift that was turning onto Rangwe Road from the opposite direction.
According to the latest data by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), 2,124 deaths were recorded from road accidents between January and June 2023.
Pedestrians led the highest number of fatalities with 330, followed by boda boda riders at 265 and passengers at 171.
