Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua brought the house down during his speech delivery in Colombia at an event attended by the country's Vice President Francia Elena Márquez Mina.

The DP, on Tuesday, revealed the moment he and his boss, President William Ruto, discovered that Mina's roots were in the Kenyan county of Meru.

Gachagua noted that the discovery began with careful assessment of her walking style and mannerisms.

"It is good for me to inform the people of Colombia that when your Vice President visited Kenya, we looked at her and she looked like the rest of us," the deputy president stated amidst laughter.

"We looked at the way she walked and she was walked the way we walk. We looked at her mannerisms and they were similar to the people of Kenya."

The behaviour then caught the attention of Ruto who decided to investigate Mina's history of humanity only to find that she originated from Kenya.

"Kenya being the origin of mankind, our President William Ruto sought to find out,'what is her origin?' I am happy to report to you that after extensive research, we have confirmed that your vice president originated from Kenya," Gachagua added.

"We have traced her roots from a plae called Meru. Now our President has given her a Kenyan name, Nyawira, which means a hardworking girl who she is."

During her visit to Kenya, Mina, a chocolate-skin vice president with African woman-style braids, held talks with both Gachagua and Ruto and actively participated in tracing her roots. It was her first visit to Nairobi.

In a joint press conference at KICC at the beginning of September, Ruto unveiled Mina's Kenyan name to the crowd for the first time amid cheers.

"Francia has a Kenyan name. She is called Nyawira. When she came to Kenya, we were able to trace her origin to a place called Meru," the Head of State revealed at the time.

Mina was born in Yolombó, a village in the Cauca Department. She first became an activist at 13, when construction of a dam threatened her community.

She started out her career as a housekeeper and later decided to pursue law.
